The Dr. George H. Bennett Office for International Education coordinates and supports internationalization efforts at Virginia State University. We encourage all VSU faculty, staff and students to participate in international activities and increase the reach and impact of VSU across borders.
Here are some of the typical ways VSU faculty and staff get involved in international activities through the Office of International Education:
International Institutional Linkages/Outreach
If you have developed relationships with academic colleagues in other countries, please discuss your research, outreach, cooperation activities with us so VSU can explore further ways to collaborate with your international colleagues and/or institutions.
If you are interested in developing a short-term, faculty-led study abroad, service learning, or international field study program, please contact us to learn more about the policies and procedures for international program development and coordination.
VSU faculty are often invited to participate in international site visits and conferences. If you are interested in participating in an international faculty development opportunity, please contact us.
Internationalization of Curriculum / Campus
If you are interested in participating in campus-level or departmental internationalization planning, strategy, and projects, OIE is always engaged in some level of internationalization activities.
We encourage every faculty and staff member to become familiar with VSU Study Abroad policies and procedures and program options for your students. Just as it "takes a village to raise a child"... it takes the efforts of the whole university to involve our students in international experiences. It is easy to get the highly motivated students engaged in international programs, however, it requires individual advising to help most students realize the benefits of Study Abroad for his/her academic and career goals, to overcome mis-perceptions and mis-information about Study Abroad, and to work through individual students needs (financial, practical, academic, personal, family, etc.) to get students involved in an international program. PLEASE, take the time and effort to encourage at least one student TODAY to Study Abroad!
