Education Abroad Advising

Have you made an appointment for education abroad advising?
Call 804-524-8347 today!
Education abroad advising is designed to help students identify international opportunities that best fit their academic program, their personal preferences, and finances.  The Dr. George H. Bennett Office for International Education works closely with students and their academic advisors and departments, the Office of the Registrar, and the Office for Student Financial Aid to make sure that the process of earning academic credit through studying abroad as a VSU student goes smoothly.  We invite you to attend the Know before You Go: Study Abroad Advising and Intercultural Education series on alternating Tuesdays and Fridays during fall and spring semesters.
Students are encouraged to begin planning 6 to 12 months in advance of their target date to go abroad. Students should not plan to study abroad during the semester when they will graduate. Travel abroad to countries on the U.S. Department of State's warning list is not encouraged.
What you need to study abroad:
  • Maturity and cultural sensitivity
  • 2.5 overall GPA
  • Permission of your academic department
  • Recommendation by two VSU faculty members
  • Financial Aid clearance (not on warning)
  • Student Accounts clearance (no balance owed to VSU)
  • A current U.S. passport (valid up to 6 months beyond your date of return)
  • Judicial Affairs clearance
What to bring to your advising appointment:
  • Copy of your academic major program sheet
  • Printout of your academic transcript from Banner
  • An open mind
  • Your questions and concerns

Please let us know when you are available to discuss your plans.  Email Ms. Morgan L. Jones, Administrative Assistant ( , to schedule an appointment for an individualized advising session.
