Dr. George H. Bennett International Scholarship Program
The Dr. George H. Bennett Study Abroad Scholarship assists Virginia State University students in gaining global awareness through participation in an education abroad experience.
Fulltime students enrolled in a degree program may compete for stipends ranging from $500 to $1000 depending on the number of applicants and the amount of funds available each grant cycle.
Note: Students may receive only one stipend per academic year. While students may reapply each year, preference will be given to students who have never received an award.
Deadline
October 1 January/Winter Term and Spring Semester
March 1 Summer and Fall Semesters October
Eligibility
Be a currently enrolled VSU student with an overall GPA of 2.5 and be in good academic standing (not on academic warning, probation, suspension, or expulsion) at the time of application and at the time of receipt of the award. Disciplinary clearance from Judicial Affairs is also required. (Funding not available for study abroad travel during or after the semester in which a student graduates.)
Provide proof of acceptance into a VSU approved study abroad program for which at least six semester hours of credit will be awarded.
Have a CURRENT U.S. Passport or provide documentation that a passport application has been submitted. (No payments will be disbursed to students who are not in possession of a passport.)
Submit a complete application by the announced deadline. Late and incomplete applications will be given no consideration.
Adhere to the University code of conduct. Awards subject to revocation for violations.
Responsibilities
Provide a service related to study abroad (ex. write an article, make a presentation to a student group, assist the International Office with study abroad fairs and other study abroad promotional activities, etc.)
Agree to serve as a contact for future program applicants during and after completion of the program.
